Tepic Airport Granted International Status

T he federal government invested the Tepic airport, in the municipality of Xalisco, Nayarit, with international status, considering that it meets the established requirements and will respond to the growing tourist and commercial demand in the region.
Tepic encompasses an area of 414 hectares, and in enjoys a 2.3 kilometer runway. In 2009 it served 45 000 passengers.
“It is declared and habilitated as international aerodrome for the arrival and departure of Mexican and international aircraft, both for public and private service, of national and international transportation, regular and non-regular, the aerodrome named Tepic, located in the municipality of Xalisco, State of Nayarit”, the resolve reads, signed by President Felipe Calderón and Published in the Official Gazette of the Federation.
The determination was made on the basis of the 2007-2012 National Development Plan,  which proposes to develop new airport projects linked to rural, tourist and commercial  development in the different regions of the country, which will foster regional growth and employment.
The Communications and Transport Ministry must now notify the International Civil Aviation Organization, and will proceed to install the international character identification signs in the terminal.

“The president of the Republic has sent today the internationalization of the Tepic Airport. He has signed it, and the Official Gazette has published that the airport is from today on, the International Tepic Airport.
We have the instruments to negotiate flights, now it is the turn of the people of Nayarit to act accordingly” Governor Ney Gonzalez told reporters.
