The Meeting Tourism Research Institute presented a balance of the results attained by the 2010 Meeting Place Mexico
Puerto Vallarta was the venue for the official ceremony top mark Pullmantour’s beginning of operations along the Mexican Pacific route, which covers the ports of Acapulco, Ixtapa Zihuatanejo, Manzanillo, Cabo San Lucas and Puerto Vallarta.
Representing Pullmantour, General Director for Mexico Eduardo Barroso presided over the ceremony. He said that bringing this type of cruise ships to Mexico is an innovative move, making it affordable to Mexican families, who can enjoy a cruise with no need for visa or passport.
The executive reiterated the company’s appreciation of the support from government and port authorities, which made it possible for the route to become a reality in 2010.
He went on to say that the arrival of Pullmantur in Puerto Vallarta represents a business opportunity to both the city and the company, since the cruise ship will acquire supplies from local businesses, which represents greater revenues for the local economy.
Local tourist services providers will benefit from the arrival of thousands of tourists during the cruise season; they will buy handicrafts, dine out, and will stay overnight in hotels before or after the cruise.
Jalisco Tourism Secretary Aurelio Lopez Rocha emphasized that the state is ready to welcome national and international tourists, and reiterated the support from the secretariat to projects that increase the number of visitors and in consequence the state’s revenue.
He said that Pullmantour arriving in the destination will be an additional attraction to foreign visitors, but especially a great opportunity to state residents who will have the opportunity to take a cruise.
