Last week we dined at Kaiser Maximilian, one of my favorites in town. Going back to this restaurant, located in Puerto Vallarta’s Downtown South is always a much anticipated event to me. Its discrete elegance and attentive, professional service from the staff make the dining experience a true pleasure to all senses.
seabassThe menu of this award-winning Austrian cuisine restaurant is tempting from top to bottom. Stephanie chose Bread soup as first course, and she was marveled at its rich, slightly spicy flavor and smooth texture. To me, Sautéed squid and San Blas Shrimp on wilted spinach and sesame garlic sauce was an irresistible temptation.
Currently, Kaiser Maximilian is presenting, along with its regular menu, a stupendous festival in collaboration with Chilean winemakers Viña Santa Helena. Dishes in the festival menu are really special and impossible to resist.
insideStephanie fell for the beef filet with red wine sauce, made with Santa Helena, Directory Selection Grand Reserve red wine, chimichurri crust, blue cheese essence, gratin potato and sautéed vegetables. One cannot expect less than excellence from Kaiser Maximilian’s kitchen, and this one surpassed her expectations. Meat practically melted in her mouth and the sauce was out of this world. This dish is served paired to a Santa Helena, Directory Selection Grand Reserve red wine, a perfect pairing for a great culinary creation.
My choice of main course was broiled sea bass filet on a bed of ratatouille, with fried eggplant, pesto and paprika sauce. It is served with a glass of Santa Helena Chardonnay, Directory Selection Reserve. It was a delight from the very first mouthful. It is evident that holding this festival has triggered creativity in Kaiser Maximilian’s kitchen.
beef filetDessert time is always sensational. A few of the desserts are in my list of favorites, but the combination of Apple strudel and Sacher chocolate cake has no match. It goes very well with a strong coffee. Stephanie indulged in Vanilla ice cream covered with a hot crepe and chocolate sauce with pecans, and a Maximilian coffee, with Baileys, Kalhua and Frangelico.
With restless creativity, Kaiser Maximilian will be serving, starting July 23 through August 31, its specials from Greece; fresh, delicious dishes from the Greek cuisine like Horiatiki, Souvlaki, Moussaka, Gyro and Baklava, which are excellent to enjoy in the summer. I can’t wait to try them.
Kaiser Maximilian is open Monday to Saturday for breakfast, lunch and dinner. Its Espresso Bar offers a fine selection of salads, sandwiches, coffee, Austrian pastries and ice cream.
