As we go to press, a round table and concert titled Echoes of Latin America. The forum, aiming at presenting the music of Latin America from the point of view of popular and academic music, encompasses the participation of professional musicians, some of them members of the Youth Symphony Orchestra. The forum was set to be held at La Bodeguita del Medio, a company that has recently joined in Vía Cultural’s efforts and was given a warm reception at the press conference.
Echoes of Latin America was set for Saturday, July 24, at the Cecatur Auditorium, with 13 musicians of the Youth Orchestra plus percussionists from La Bodeguita del Medio. The program includes music from several Latin American countries by such renowned composers as Antonio Carlos Jobim and Astor Piazzolla.
The press conference was presided over by Via Cultural president Abel Villa Jr. director Sergio Zepeda as well as board members Maria José Zorrilla and Fernando Sánchez.
At the press conference the announcement was made that the Summer Tour will close with a great concert next August 7, with the participation of 90 musicians from th4e orchestra and choir and an important visual production.
Given the magnitude of the event, the venue for the concert was yet to be announced. The concert marks the end of the summer tour in which musicians from Guadalajara, Tepic, Colima and other cities participate.
It is without doubt one the most important concerts the city has hosted, judging by the number of musicians and the visual production.
The concert program includes great musical pieces from Hollywood films, among them the Titanic Suite, by James Horner; Star Wars Imperial March by John Williams, Harry Potter by the same composer, West Side Story, by Leonard Bernstein; the Phantom of the Opera, by Andrew Lloyd Weber and Pirates of the Caribbean, at the World’s End, by Hans Zimmer.
