Traversing… from the Figurative to the Abstract

Five years ago Cecilia Bojorquez, an artist living in Puerto Vallarta, proposed Corsica Gallery owners organizing a workshop with one of the masters they represent to add a plastic activity to the cultural offer of Puerto Vallarta that would result novelty and through practice, would enrich the local art community.
agusSelected master was Agustin Castro, and in spite of having first considered bringing a different teacher each year, identification of Vallarta artists with their teacher was such that ever since they have requested Agustin Castro to direct the workshop, which has allowed to consolidate an art movement that could probably be called “The Castros”.
Each year a new goal has been set and every year every expectation has been surpassed. The group’s level is ascending, which poses no limitation to new members of the workshop. ´
This year, the proposed goal was to adequately traverse from figuration to abstraction, which was no easy task for participants, since most of them are figurative artists. However, after four weeks of hard work, we have finally seen the results and they are splendid.
otra pinturaTraversing… from the Figurative to the Abstract is the title of an art exhibition which opened last June 10 at Galeria Corsica, and is made up of the works by 18 artists, most of them residents of Puerto Vallarta,  who participated in the fifth Agustin Castro Painting Workshop. The exhibition turned out to be a feast to the senses, and as you watch closely each of the paintings, little by little the question arises in your mind. “What are the surprises Agustin Castro has in store for us next year?”
Participants in the workshop and show are Marina Armenta, Caroline Bussard, Susan Bussard, Roberto Bermejo, Angélica Carmona, Rosana Chávez, Sonia Contreras, Carmina Díaz, Irma Dichirico, Patti Gallardo, Ernesto Gispert, M. Alfonso Meza, Felipe Morfín, Beatriz Narváez, Marina Narváez, Saúl Saucedo, Alejandro Siordia and Zina Sirutis.
