Before an audience of over one thousand people, Riviera Nayarit dignitaries opened the Latin America Boat Show; at the ceremony, Governor Ney Gonzalez Sanchez underlined the importance of tourism as trigger of the social and economic development in the state.
The opening ceremonies were presided over by Governor Ney Gonzalez. He was accompanied by Navy Minister Mariano Saynez, as representative of President Felipe Calderón; Boat Show General Director Raul Serna, Brunswick President Dustin McCoy and Brunswick International Director for Latin America Bill Gress.
The governos talked about the importance of events like the Boat Show in regaining the preferences of high end tourist segments, because besides finding an attraction to visit Riviera Nayarit, they regain trust in the destination after last year’s A H1N1 virus sanitary alert.
“The Latin America Boat Show draws the attention of a segment we are finding difficult to gain back; after the flu we had post-flu tourism, that is, we were just reacting to attract tourism back. We have been successful, we at Riviera Nayarit have occupancy rates of 92 per cent this week, and the segment we are finding the hardest to regain is the highest income segment. The Mexico Cup Regatta and the Boat Show have earned a position in the high-income segment.
After the protocol, hundreds of guests watched a demonstration of a rescue drill by the Navy Ministry personnel. A helicopter, speed boats, divers and an impressive logistical display were set in motion to rescue a shipwrecked person. Spectators were marvel at the helicopter maneuvering at the rescue point.
The Latin Americ Boat Show is part of the Nautical Extravaganza taking place at Riviera Nayarit. There are over 120 craft being exhibited, music shows and the Expomar, a museografic exhibition of the country’s Naval History, making the Boat Show a unique event.
