This world-class event will foster sailing in our country and will create a platform for a diversified tourist offer
The event will take place in the Riviera Nayarit from February 27 to March 13, 2010 as part of the Festivities for the Independence’s Bicentennial and the Revolution’s Centennial.

Mexico’s Federal Government, through the ministries of Tourism (Sectur, Spanish acronym) and Navy (Semar, Spanish acronym), the Mexican Council for Tourist Promotion, the National Fund for the Foment of Tourism and the Mexican Sailing Federation presided over the official presentation of the Nextel Mexico Cup Regatta 2010, Bicentennial Edition.
This world class event will take place in the Riviera Nayarit from February 27 to March 13, 2010 as part of the Festivities for the Independence’s Bicentennial and the Revolution’s Centennial.
Upon announcing this great event, which has brought together multipart efforts where Architect Ernesto Amtmann participates both as representative of the private sector and as president of the organizing committee, Ministers Rodolfo Elizondo; Admiral Mariano Francisco Saynez and Nayarit Governor Ney Gonzalez, made event details known and said that the Regatta will be a benchmark event on an international level as to sailing competitions, and will generate important benefits to the country’s tourist promotion and will impact the international nautical community as well.
The first edition in which 1,500 athletes are to participate, along with back up personnel, seeks to consolidate as one of the most competitive events in the specialty, with the America Cup, the Del Rey Cup, Volvo Ocean Race and Rolex Cup Racing.
It was announced that the Mexico Cup will be held every two years and will be permanent, which will undoubtedly foment the sport of sailing in our country.
At the official presentation of the event participated also the president of the Mexican Sailing Federation, Ralph Nelles; Mexican Council for Tourist Promotion General Director Oscar Fitch Gómez, National Fund for the Promotion of Tourism General Director Miguel Gomez Mont, National Commission For Physical Culture and Sports Bernardo de la Garza Herrera, Bicentennial Festivities Organizing Commission Executive Coordinator Jose Manuel Villalpando Cesar, Mexico Cup Regatta Organizing Committee President Ernesto Amtmann Aguilar.
