With Christmas just around the corner, we had dinner at Kaiser Maximilian last week.
We enjoyed a wonderful evening in the understated elegance of this Austrian cuisine restaurant.
Echoes of the recent gourmet festival still lingered in the atmosphere as we sipped our aperitifs and read the menu.
From the appetizers we chose Blue Cheese salad with young beets, toasted nuts and port wine vinaigrette; and Ricotta gnocchi with caramelized Brussels sprouts, squash, fennel, hazelnuts and tarragon sauce; which, as we learned later, are going to be included in the Christmas menu.
An outstanding feature of Kaiser Maximilian’s cuisine is sauces. They fulfill their purpose of dressing up, enhancing the qualities of a dish’s main ingredient, and taking the pleasure of tasting a little further. A great deal of attention is paid to sauces here. They contribute their texture, their temperature and well rounded flavor to a meal.
As main courses, Letty chose a delicious red snapper on breaded eggplant with a tasty chili sauce and pesto.
In turn, I tried a superb rack of lamb with vegetables, mash potato, Chinese pea, fava beans and an unmatchable sauce. I paired it to a great Malbec. It was unbelievable.
At Kaiser Maximilian, I like to have European liquor as after dinner drink. This time I had a glass of Pear Williams to make my dinner experience whole.
Kaiser Maximilian will be holding a splendid Christmas Eve dinner, with a very special four course menu consisting of imaginative dishes filled with the spirit of the holidays.
Among the choices of main course, Turkey medallions stuffed with pine nuts, apple, dried fruits and butternut squash brioche, fine vegetables, sweet potato puree and cranberry sauce stand out. There are four choices of main course altogether, including Red snapper filet with ratatouille, bell pepper sabayon and crispy leek; and Seared shrimp and diver scallops with squash pure, salad of apples and pine nuts, truffle sauce.
Please take note that in Mexico, Christmas is celebrated on Christmas Eve, December 24.
On New Year’s Eve, Kaiser Maximilian will have a five course menu, starting with a glass of sparkling wine. There will be music for dancing with a DJ, and New Year Decoration. On New Year’s Eve, Puerto Vallarta fills with fiesta. People stroll up and down Olas Altas street, before and after the fireworks in the Main Plaza and hotels along the bay’s shoreline. Kaiser Maximilian offers both indoor and outdoor seating, to help you get most out of the celebration.
