Last year the festival For the Love of Garlic and Mango was a complete success at The River Café restaurant, in such a way that restaurant owners decided to expand it throughout the summer. This year the garlic and mango festival is back to offer lovers of fine dining a surprisingly delicious dining experience during the summer.
Like last year, we dined at the River Café last week and again enjoyed this exotic gastronomic proposal, and again were delighted by imaginative dishes included in the festival menu, in the pleasant, sober elegance of the restaurant.
Sitting comfortably at a terrace table by the gardens on the Cuale river banks, we read the menu, full of really enticing dishes, promises of unheard-of combinations of flavors, a unique dining experience.
The special menu includes an incredible appetizer, Crostini bread with roasted garlic and mango chutney -a marvelous delicacy. The garlic pulp turns creamy and when spread on crostini and topped with mango chutney, it is really exquisite.
The appetizer was followed by a double garlic cream of potato with chipotle aioli that was simply sensational. Stephanie’s choice was Caesar salad with bacon, croutons and traditional garlic anchovy dressing.
Main courses assault the imagination and make it hard to choose, they all seem equally appetizing. I finally decided to have the shrimp étouffé sautéed with garlic and olive oi8l with white wine on a bed of julienne vegetables with mango puree. This dish is a work of art. It is delicious as it is beautiful. Every detail adds to the pleasure of tasting. A Mexican Chardonnay was the perfect pairing to my dish.
Stephanie, in turn, chose grilled chicken breast with 40 clove cream sauce; roasted garlic mashed potatoes and steamed vegetables. She was really delighted by her choice. The chicken breast was tender, bathed with a creamy sauce of unexpected rich flavor.
The menu includes dessert, brandy glazed fresh cut mango over vanilla ice cream. With a cup of coffee, it is the ideal finish for such a fine dining experience.
The festival For the love of Garlic and Mango continues at The River Café, It is an opportunity not to be missed to taste unusual, delicious dishes.
