Sometimes life can be anxiety-ridden and painful-filled with self-doubt, angst, heartache, and despair. Those feelings, however, can be transformed into true self-care and compassion that feels good and renews you.
While traditional treatments for anxiety tend to focus on the brain, the HeartMath solution, based on research conducted since 1990 by the Institute of HeartMath (a nonprofit research organization), focuses on the heart’s role in establishing and stabilizing emotional patterns. A story from ancient Greek texts provides an analogy for coping with anxiety. It was prophesied that whoever succeeded in untying a seemingly impenetrable knot would become ruler of all of Asia. In a flash of insight, Alexander the Great realized that untying the knot was as simple as cutting through it with his sword. He did exactly that and indeed went on to rule.
The point is that when dealing with anxiety in your daily life, you don’t have to go through all the details of your past, you simply need to cut through it. But it takes alignment of the heart, brain, mind, emotions, and nervous system to do so.
This is the basis of the Institute of HeartMath’s Cut-Thru technique, which uses a breath-centered approach to help you break through your knot of accumulated worries, anxieties, and fears. The technique’s six steps can be applied to any anxiety-related issue (although it’s best to start with something minor) and were designed to help take you through the process of letting go. Each time you repeat the steps with the right attitude, you’ll find that old perceptions, thoughts, and feelings are released from your cells.
After you’ve committed to practicing regularly, you’ll get into the rhythm of the technique and the six steps will flow together to give you release, bringing you a tremendous sense of hope, renewed energy, and passion for life.
