Xiutla Folkloric Group Marks 15 Years of Career
In an emotional ceremony, municipal authorities, families and friends celebrated with the group’s founder, Professor Enrique Barrios y Limón
Last Monday, The Xiutla Folkloric Group celebrated its 15th anniversary with a Mass and a commemorative show at the Cecatur Auditorium. Along these 15 years Xiutla has been a worthy representative of Puerto Vallarta, Jalisco and Mexico on the stages where it has appeared.
It was founded on July 27, 1994, by Professor Enrique Barrios y Limón, to the end of offering the Puerto Vallarta community the possibility of learning about the traditions and customs of the country. To date they have given over 1500 shows with a repertoire of regional dances from 18 states and 23 regions, which thousands have enjoyed at the group’s appearances.
On the occasion of the celebration, at the central courtyard of the City Hall, Barrios Limón, joined by City Councilmen Andrés Gonzalez Palomera, Jorge Luis García Delgado, Ricardo Rene Rodriguez and Administrative Major Officer Marcelo Mantecon Gutierrez and the person in charge of the Art and Culture Department Oswaldo Martinez Lobato, inaugurated the exhibition entitled “Xiutla Old Times”.
Professor Barrios pointed out that this small exhibition is a retrospective of the group’s life, as well as the activities it has carried out through 15 years, in Puerto Vallarta and other cities across Mexico, and even other countries where it has toured, such as Italy, United States, Canada, Spain, Argentina, France and China, among others.
Later at the Cecatur Auditorium, the first stage ever on which the Xiutla appeared on July 27, 1994, Mayor Javier Bravo Carbajal, joined by City Council members and City officials, congratulated the founder of this group for his labor of so many years, but mainly for his perseverance to educate Puerto Vallarta’s youths in one of the fine arts, a labor that is not constrained to the group but contributes to personal development of all members of the group and even their families.
During the commemorative event, the mayor handed recognition certificates to the teachers who have collaborated in different aspects of the grouip.
Finally, with the traditional Mañanitas playing in the background to mark one more anniversary of this worthy representative of Puerto Vallarta, a beautiful birthday cake was cut.
