Mardi Gras at The River Café

Through the month of February, the restaurant The River Café dresses up to celebrate, it brings a carnival atmosphere down from New Orleans and presents lovers of fine dining with a special Mardi Gras menu, a stupendous selection of specialties from the Cajun cuisine.
Last Tuesday the new menu, which is offered along with the restaurant’s regular menu, was presented to the media and special guests, who enjoyed the first fruits of the prestigious restaurant’s new proposal, hosted by restaurant manager Michael Bouford and Claudia Diconca, Marketing and Public Relations manager.
The evening went on in a friendly informal atmosphere, and each guest received a mask and bead necklaces, quite in the Mardi Gras spirit, which motivated them to get into the carnival mood.
During the event, guests enjoyed cocktails and an excellent tasting of the dishes in the menu, a preview of the culinary delights that can be enjoyed throughout the month at The Rive Café.
The menu includes Mesclun Greens with Creole mustard vinaigrette, served with jalapeño corn bread, as well as the well-known Jambalaya, spicy sausage, shrimp, blackened chicken with peppers, onions and spices on a bed of seasoned rice.
Not to be missed are the BBQ baby back ribs, painted with Bourbon spiked hickory BBQ sauce, served with fries.
Shrimp Etouffée is another of the delicacies included in the menu; shrimp smothered in traditional sauce of peppers, onions, celery and parsley, served on a bed of steamed rice.
The jump fried Atchafalaya catfish sounds as exotic as it is delicious, cornmeal crusted catfish filet marinated in lemon and garlic, served with Creole tartar sauce and rice pilaf.
For meat lovers like myself, the Bourbon Street Steak hits the spot. A 10-oz. New York Steak grilled to perfection and topped with rich Bourbon-peppercorn sauce, served with garlic mashed potatoes.
To close on a high note delicious desserts are offered: New Orleans Style bread pudding with rich Kentucky Bourbon sauce and black bottom pecan pie.
There is no doubt that those coming to the River Café in February will live an unforgettable dining experience, with specialty cuisine not often found in Puerto Vallarta. Live the Mardi Gras atmosphere throughout the month with this special menu, a true feast to the taste buds.
To make the experience complete, the restaurant features live jazz every night.
