Projects Presented to Foster Rural and Academic Tourism
Proposals are made known to drive growth in the sector in Puerto Vallarta
To the end of strengthening the tourist sector of Puerto Vallarta, by offering visitors a greater variety of activities, last Thursday at the meeting of the Municipal Advisory Council of Tourism some projects were presented to the assemble, seeking to foster rural and academic tourism, as well as the protection of the patrimony.
City Councilman for tourism Heriberto Sanchez Ruiz, presided over the meeting and after welcoming the members of the council, he emphasized that this is the top organism as to tourism in the municipality, where decisions are made for the destination.
In this regard, Jesús Palacios Bernal, head of the Agricultural Foment Department, presented a report about actions being taken to promote rural tourism, and pinpointed that said actions have been linked to those of the Municipal Council for Sustainable Rural Development, to the end of attaining the program’s objectives.
He went on to say that the municipality enjoys not only beautiful beaches, but mountains, exuberant vegetation, rivers, picturesque villages, and archaeological zones of great wealth, which represents a great potential for tourist activities, nature, adventure, extreme, archaeological and eco tourism, as well as religious tourism.
This is why, he said, an agreement has been reached to promote new attractions to be added in order to boost rural economy as well as that of the destination. Several rural communities have expressed an interest in taking part of this program.
In turn, Luis Ignacio Zúñiga Director of the UNIVA’s Puerto Vallarta Campus presented some proposals from a work group as to academic tourism, which intends to create an inter-institutional team to promote educational offer, thus allowing for student and professor exchange in Puerto Vallarta.
Some of the proposals presented are the organizing of congresses, forums, expositions, symposiums and seminars, on regional, national and international levels; create packages including transportation, food, lodging and entertainment; establishing links with high education institutions in the country and abroad, among others, in order to guarantee a constant flow of tourists in the segment.

Salvador Galindo presented the final estimate and everything is set to break ground as soon as the municipal and state governments sign the collaboration agreement that will release the necessary funds, which will happen in upcoming days.
