It is intended to add a global perspective to balance the influence of tourism and sustainability and to bring the human face of the sector under the limelight: its ability to reinforce understanding, fomenting social inclusion and promoting the improvement of wellbeing.

The message of the World Tourism Organization underscores the fact that tourism is an international sector and as such, it has the responsibility to reach out to the whole world with its positive contributions. Ghana is one of the founding members of the organization and a key factor of the WTO’s Sustainable Tourism program.

The World Tourism Day is celebrated every year on September 27. Its aim is to foment awareness among the international community about the importance of tourism and its social, cultural, political and economical value. The event intends to face the world challenges as outlined in the Development Objectives of the Millennium and to influence the tourist sector to reach those objectives.
