Researcher Rogelio Marcial Dictated Conference on Juvenile Cultures
The conference was presented by the College of Jalisco and the City of Puerto Vallarta, as part of a joint year-round conference program. The conference was dictated to an audience made up largely of young students crowding the council room at the City Hall. Doctor Rogelio Marcial, researcher at the College of Jalisco boarded the origins and the main references of the various youth cultures currently being found in Jalisco. He talked about the motivations of their making and the ways young people decide to express themselves. Some of the cultural movements of the youth dealt with were the punks, cholos, emos, darks, rastas, goth, taggers, and ravers, among others. He also spoke of the spaces and the resources today’s youths use to express themselves from the cultural diversity to the political positioning.
Doctor Rogelio Marcial Vazquez has a doctorate in social science from the College of Jalisco; he is a professor-researcher at the College of Jalisco since 1993, in charge of a research project on youth cultures in the metropolitan area of Guadalajara. Professor in the College’s post graduate programs and in the undergraduate and post graduate programs of the University of Guadalajara. He has published several books, among which the following are notable: From the Corner We Dominate, Youth and Collective Presence, The Band Rules, and We are like we are: Youth Cultures in Guadalajara.
