A year ago, Cindy LaCrosse took her last swing as college player at the University of Louisville and dremed with a life as professional player. Last Sunday she played a bogey-free round, 5 under par, which earned the title at the Duramed Futures Tour, winning the Riviera Nayarit Challenge.
“It feels incredible” said LaCrosse, who was up by three strokes to catch up with Lee. “Lat year I graduated from college and entered several tournaments, but I just could not seem to have a good final round. What feels incredible today is to finally close with a great final round.”
LaCrosse appeared very pleased about the state of the course at El Tigre, which she rated as one of the top and most competitive courses in the tour. She highlighted the amiability of the staff at Paradise Village and the warmth of the Mexicans, but said she cannot expect to return to Riviera Nayarit next year.
Seven out of ten Mexican players participating in the Riviera Nayarit Challenge made the cut, with high hopes in Tanya Dergal, who had played for 69 strokes (four under par) in the second round, taking fourth place. In spite of such performance, in the final round Tanya fell down to the 35th position, although she remained as the top-ranking Mexican.
Little Marijosse Navarro, only thirteen, who climbed up to the 46th position and playing for a total 223 strokes, only four above par. Navarro is now the youngest Mexican ever to make the cut in a professional tournament and her final round performance was a lecture on playing, with 73 strokes.
Riviera Nayarit has consolidated as one of the top golf destinations in the world, by the quality and the quantity of its supply, with six golf courses in operation in the destination and three more being developed.
The Riviera Nayarit Challenge is one more of the promotional actions endorsed by the Riviera Nayarit Visitors and Convention Bureau, in accordance with the vision of Governor Ney Gonzalez Sanchez, who has made tourism a priority in the state’s development.
