Rob Grube stayed in the fight for the title of the Canadian Tour’s Riviera Nayarit Classic sponsored by Corona Light and ended up winning the tournament after closing the last round with a 20-yard+ birdie at the 18th hole of the Litibu Golf Course, and finishing 22 under par.
“I’ve been very comfortable at the course and the people at Riviera Nayarit have made me feel very good” said Grube, who won his first tour title here, in his second year in the tour. He will defend his crown next year.
the champDan Halldorson, Executive Director of the Canadian Tour, had words of praise for the destination during the award ceremony, and thanked the state government and the Riviera Nayarit Visitors and Convention Bureau’s support as well as that from the National Fund for Foment of Tourism (Fonatur), who facilitated carrying out this tournament at the Litibu Golf Course. “We always found great support and we expect to return next year” Halldorson said.
At the last day of competition, under a blue sky and with practically no wind, the outcome was anyone’s guess as Lee and Grube were tied at 18 under par after three days of activity.
In the first holes Mexican hopes rose as Camaron Rodriguez got an eagle and two birdies in the first five holes to rank only two strikes below the leaders, who had a discrete start.
However, Lee and Grube reacted and despite Rodriguez’ 19 under par for the tournament, withstood the pressure of knowing the Mexican had finished and had taken the lead.
Both Lee and Grube gave a lecture on great golf at the Litibu course. There was no obvious winner in sight and it would all be decided at the 18th hole. Lee got at the hole one strike below, as Grube boasted a 21 under par. With this figures he buried Camarón Rodríguez hopes, who claimed third place.
Grube and Lee were at the green with possibilities of a birdie, making a more dramatic finale. Lee scored first and momentarily tied the match, forcing Grube to put the ball in to avoid a tie-breaker.  He took the putt and after rolling over twenty feet to the hole in one of the most dramatic finales of the Canadian Tour.
Grube ended with 68 strikes, four under par for a total 266, 22 under par. In the final round he had five birdies (3, 7, 10, 14, and18) and a bogey at the 13th hole.
Camaron Rodriguez, who signed a 66 strike card to end up 19 under par in third place, is the highest ranking Mexican in the tour. “I’m happy with the result” said el Camaron, “the course was in good shape and I felt comfortable. I will continue the Canadian Tour, of which I’m an active member. I expect to consolidate and to have good performances, representing Mexico abroad”.
Jose Octavio Tabaco Gonzalez, signed a 67-strike card, 5 under par, for 272 strikes total, 16 under par, which placed him in eight place.
