Evenings are still cool, and this makes going out to dinner a delight for more than one reason. Last Monday we dined at The River Café, one of our favorite restaurants, which always welcomes us to a cool, romantic atmosphere in its terraces and gardens by the Cuale river, at the heart of Puerto Vallarta.

As we sipped our aperitifs, we went over the menu, with which we are quite familiar. Letty immediately went for the River Café salad, roasted eggplant with tomato, basil vinaigrette; which she loves because there is goat cheese in it. She loves cheeses with strong flavor. I chose the crab and coconut cream, a very interesting proposal, because the mild flavored crabmeat is placed in the center of the plate, and the cream is poured all around it. Besides its rich creamy texture, the cream is slightly spicy, which makes it more enticing.

It is a rather simple, yet quite delectable dish that is better enjoyed with a glass of Merlot, just as I did.
At dessert time all rules must be broken. The prospect of exquisite crepes with red fruits and chocolate sauce was irresistible. They are almost sinful. Accompanied by a cup of coffee, regular for me and Cappuccino for Letty, they are the perfect way to end a stupendous dining experience on a cool spring evening, by the murmuring waters of the Cuale River.
As mother’s day comes near, The River Café appears as the best choice to celebrate mom. It is open every day for breakfast, lunch and dinner; on the Cuale River Island, Locale # 4, Downtown. Tel. 223 0788 www.rivercafe.com.mx
