Galeria Corsica to Open Exhibition of Rocio Caballero’s Paintings
The works of Felipe Gonzalez Aguilera “Ferguz” are shown at the Naval Museum’s temporary exhibits hall
Galeria Corsica continues to present the works of the most prestigious Mexican artists today. Its ample exhibition spaces will feature the works of Mexico City-born painter Rocío Caballero in an exhibition that will open November 4. Rocio’s paintings have been exhibited in the most prestigious galleries in the country, and have been acclaimed in the Young Art Meet in Aguascalientes, Mexico 1998, and the Art Biennial of Latin America and the Caribbean, 2002.
Art critic Lupina Lara Elizondo, in the book “A View of Mexico and its Artists”, says about Rocio’s work: “In paintings of introspection and nostalgia, Rocío Caballero envelops viewers in a sensitive world far from daily events and near the place where dreams are born. Her work has the power to draw viewers to her reflections, full of humanism and emotion, and to put her existence and desires on the edge. Rocio shares her search for transcendence.”
Rocio’s painting is free and sincere, with a narrative content that expresses what the author experiences and feels. She creates characters to represent her own metaphors. Ingenuity and imagination make the confrontation with her feelings visual, and create a mythology of characters and symbols that speak on her behalf. Her composition is inspired, and her representation unlimited. Rocío’s paintings are not static: they almost always show movement in time and place, with a sensation of continuity. They show Rocío’s skill in achieving expressive synthesis that is loyal to her discourse while visually and aesthetically harmonious. Her narration, like good literature, gives free rein to the imagination and senses.
Painting is the best way to get inspired, Rocío Caballero’s painting suggests a new modernity that challenges the idea that femininity and romanticism belong in the past, that contemplation and illusion are dated, and that the scandalous and grotesque are the only path to follow.
Rocío’s work celebrates freshness and originality, along with perfected skill in drawing and painting. One of man’s greatest privileges is imagination. Tedium and routine can vanish in the presence of imagination, which is regenerative and gives meaning to the future. Imagination offers a personal world, now threatened by automatism Rocio Caballero presents art that insists on maintaining hope in the possibility of individual existence with unique reactions and feelings, dreams and desires, all part of spiritual nature. Her work renews the public’s desire to experience painting.
The exhibition will open with a cocktail reception on Wednesday, Nov. 4, from 6:00 to 10:00 p.m. Galeria Corsica, 230 Leona Vicario, Downtown, Tel. 223 1821
