A few days ago I had the pleasure of having breakfast with Roberto Aceves, professional photographer and a long-time friend. With him there is always plenty to talk about, but this time, and I am thankful for it, we talked about his work.
Passionate about his art, his photo gear is an extension of himself. Roberto possesses a quality in my opinion every photographer should have. A kind of a sixth sense that enables him to perceive images right at the moment they occur, or even before they happen. It is thanks to this virtue that he has captured unrepeatable moments. His intuition leads him to be at the right time at the right place and to have the reflexes, the ability to act upon such intuition so that time freezes as he shoots, and a unique image of incredible beauty is captured.
bobAfter being a graphic reporter for a few years, he moved on to explore a new creative vein, established as a wedding and group photographer, a specialty he has cultivated for a number of years now.
Roberto stands out for his great sensitivity, which enables him to perceive and capture emotions, be it the emotions and feelings being experienced by the person he is taking pictures of, or by a group of people in a wedding or a convention.
He has numerous emotional anecdotes of defining moments in the lives of many people, in events he has shared with their protagonists as a professional of the lens.
In 20 years of professional career as a photographer, Roberto has gathered an almost incommensurable collection of photographs. In this sense, Roberto assumes his role the trade assigns to him and while witnessing the ever changing landscape in the Puerto Vallarta region, he has been a graphic chronicler of his time. He has recently set out to make an anthology of his work. A titanic labor, but I can’t wait to see the result.
Always restless, with vivid creativity, Roberto has established a new studio in the Primavera de Vallarta subdivision, where he explores new possibilities and pursues aims kept latent for a long time. His focus now, alongside his work as wedding and group photographer, is portrait. Roberto draws the subject’s best features and creates an image that people are proud to show. Women after forty, for instance, who at times feel unease about having a portrait made, would be surprised to see the difference a good portrait can make”.
“I want to rescue the studio wedding portrait tradition” he went on to say. Nowadays brides and grooms are inclined towards photo shoots in outdoor locations, “but there is something unique about the classical studio wedding photo that I would like to take up again.”
